System Design & Manufacture - Electronic Design (OrCAD), Mehcanical Design (Inventor Product Design Suite), Embedded Control System Design & Programming (PSoC & others)
DMI was established in 1997 following the completion of the 3 Axis stabilised Libra III design, which won an AMPTAS Technical Oscar in 2000. Since then, we have designed & manufactured camera systems available in all 5 continents.
Products:
Mega III - A 3-axis remote head, which we designed & manufactured in-house - See credits tab for videos & credits list.
DynaStick - A camera track / camera slider / rotary motor control stick with 4 position memories, intelligent soft-stops, and up to 30A output from the compact 82 x 68 x 35mm drive unit (see DynaStick tab) - Used on FIFA World Cup Football (TV - BBC Russia) and "Life" (film) and for ProSup TED.
Other systems include a 3-axis stabilised "plug 'n' play" system, which was originally designed for the Bourne Ultimatum motorbike chase, then used for the Panama harbour motorbike jump on Quantum of Solace. It has been used on extensive sporting events in collaboration with the Vortex telescopic mast (TM - Cammotion).
Consultancy & Design:
We don’t just build technology — we solve problems. With our in-house mechanical, electronic & software design we have undertaken various projects, involving remote head control systems, SLR stills camera complete solutions, and various motor control systems, including a hydraulic record/replay system used on the Peter Pan film - Please visit the "Other Projects & Consultancy" tab for more. Our
consultancy services empower creators, engineers, and production teams with
bespoke solutions across mechanical, electronic, and software domains: Custom hardware & firmware integration, precision motor & timing controls, product design, prototyping, optimisation and build.
We made/programmed the motor control system for the roof opening system used in the Batman Tumbler Batmobile (Batman Begins).
We also currently produce our generator failure/power readout modules for helicopter power control systems, exclusively to AS Aero.
We supplied our Preston-FIZ interface for the London 2012 Olympics to convert the "Preston" protocol into a standard protocol for sending to an ethernet link, and converting it back again so the Preston lens motors etc would operate as normal. The same system is also used for interfacing to standard industrial motor drives.
